The Certificate Course may be taken concurrently with any University undergraduate or postgraduate course, whether followed on a full-time or part-time basis.

This course is open to both University of Malta current students and General Public.

Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The Certificate/Diploma in Language Proficiency in German is an intensive course which provides professional training in German language skills. The course will complement your expertise in your area of studies with a considerable command of the German language both related to everyday life situations as well as to terminology connected to your field of studies. The course is divided into two parts: The Certificate and the Diploma. Both parts can be followed concurrently with the main degree course followed by a student of the University of Malta. The programme is open if you are a student or member of staff at the University with no prior knowledge of German, and are seeking to acquire a substantial level of German language skills up to level B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Requirement for award of Certificate in Language Proficiency (German): 30 ECTS credits

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Certificate in Language Proficiency and the Diploma in Language Proficiency under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts.

After completing the full course up to level C1.2 (CEFR), you will be able to:

  • Follow complex conversations in German in a professional environment;
  • Discuss issues related to your field of expertise by making use of specific professional terminology;
  • Develop an in-depth command of the German language;
  • Fluently communicate in German;
  • Foster your intellectual development through the in-depth study of a foreign language as well as the encounter with a different cultural context.

Non EU Applicants:

If students are following a FT course at UM - No fees apply.
If students are not following a FT course at UM - Total Tuition Fee: €4,250. Yr1 - €1,420 - Yr2 - €1,420 - Yr3 - €1,410
